Here we have three splendid fairy wrens perching on a common lilly pilly branch. From left to right we have a female with her pink beak and tan around the eyes, a male in blue-violet breeding plumage and a non-breeding male in eclipse plumage. The blue males are not only visually remarkable but they are also quite the charmers during courtship. They sometimes pluck brightly coloured petals to present to the female as part of their wooing ritual. Splendid Fairy Wrens are cooperative breeders, so the non-breeding wrens help out in rearing the chicks of the dominant pair.
