These are spotted pardalotes. I had never heard of this tiny bird until we found one hopping around the ground, it was injured so we took it to Kanyana in Kalamunda and they helped it out. I learnt that these adorable birds are of the smallest in Australia at 8-10cm. They nest in burrows underground or sometimes in tree hollows and are reasonably common, unlike the forty spotted pardalote found in Tasmania, which is sadly now classed as endangered.
